The Light Daily Devotional – Helping Yourself by Yielding Yourself

Focus: Helping Yourself by Yielding Yourself

WORD FOR TODAY

There is a limit to how far men can go to help you. When God sends people your way who can help you and are attempting to help you, don’t forget to help yourself!

Scriptural Reference

“The angel of the LORD came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” 1 Kings 19:7 NKJV

Helping yourself in this context does not imply relying on the arm of flesh for assistance, but rather agreeing to yield yourself to the advances God is making towards you through the people He is bringing your way. The fact that God is always willing to assist does not change the fact that you must assist yourself for God to assist you. He requires your cooperation to do His will in your life.

Elijah was expected to eat before embarking on his journey. By following the instructions given to him, he was able to travel for 40 days and nights without becoming tired. The parable of the ten virgins taught us that every man must accept responsibility for his own life.

If a child has people who will send him or her to school or give him or her the opportunity to attend school, he or she must be prepared to help himself perform well. It is your responsibility to earn God’s salvation, blessing, and promises for your life. The point at which the prodigal son submitted himself to make things right with his father was a watershed moment in his life.

+ Do you cooperate with God to do His good pleasure in your life?

Prayer: Lord! Help me to play my part in the fulfillment of your purpose for my life in Jesus’ name. Amen!

Emphasis: Helping yourself is yielding yourself to play your part in every bid to fulfill your mandate!

Have a Refreshed Thursday!
