RCCG November 2021 Thanksgiving Service Sermon

TOPIC: Great Expectations

MINISTERING: Pastor E.A. Adeboye

TEXT: Proverbs 24:13-14

Prayer:

  • Pray for all landlord and landowners that God will grant them long life, good health, so they can enjoy the fruit of their labor
  • Pray for all tenants that God the great provider will send help so that they won’t die as tenants
  • Pray for all those who suffered losses in the collapsed building, that God will comfort them
  • Father, you have been good to me thus far, please let me see the new year

Proverbs 24:13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste: 14  So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off

Great Expectations; two big words. What do we mean by expectation? Expectation means what you want to become. Expectation could mean what you want to have; something you want to be will soon be. For example, when a woman is pregnant, she will be expecting to have a child. Expectation could also be ‘what I want to achieve’ for a student in the university that wants to get a B.sc.

If you ask everyone; young and old, can you tell us your greatest expectation? A very large percentage will say money. And you can blame them, the difference between the landlord and the tenant is money – Ecclesiastes 10:19

I pray in the name that is above every other name, you won’t die poor.

However, money has challenges, it never satisfies – Ecclesiastes 5:10, Ecclesiastes 5:12

And one of the biggest problem of money, after you have bought so many, people will still ask you why are you still purchasing money – Eccl. 2:1-11

There is something better than laying up treasures for your children, it is that they prosper while you are alive and such that they won’t need your money when you die. – Luke 12:16-21, Matthew 6:25-34

What is your expectation? Money? It can’t satisfy you. It will only frustrate you. Some want fame, they want power. 2023 is around the corner and they are willing to do what they can. How sure are you? How are you sure you will be alive in 2023? – Jeremiah 45:5.

In  2 Chronicles 26:3-21, we could see that power corrupts. 1 Samuel 15:1-31

Some pastors want to be popular so they won’t tell you what you want to hear. Those who are saying Hosanna today will say, crucify him tomorrow.

Philippians 3:7-11 Paul surrendered all he had to win Christ and the power of His resurrection so that he can do exploit – Daniel 11:32. Paul wanted the power that God gives – Acts 19:12; that’s the kind of expectation we are talking about.

Another kind of expectation we should be expecting is that of Moses – Exodus 33:17-33. Moses  asked God to show him His glory – 1 John 3:2. Your expectation should be the second coming of Jesus. Some people are too busy, they have forgotten that the trumpet can sound any time soon. I have seen a glimpse of Him before, but he was very far, and since then I have made holiness my watchword because without holiness no man can see God. I am expecting His second coming – Revelation 21:1-6.

When something happens to a member of the congregation we pastors know what to say; “don’t sorrow like an unbeliever” easy to say, wait till it happens to you. I had my own taste of sorrow earlier this year, now, when I hear that someone lost someone, I understand.

A day is coming when there will be no more pain, no more sorrow; that should be your expectation. My greatest expectation is that I see all of you in heaven. That when we get to heaven, if Jesus will allow us, we occupy a particular section in heaven.

This is why you find me crying all the time, live holy; without holiness no man is going to heaven. And again, if you are not born again, you are not going to heaven. If you want to give your life to Jesus Christ, come now.

Prayer: Father, anything that will not let me make it to heaven, don’t give it to me
