Proverbs 22:6 – NKJV – Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6 – NLT – Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.

Proverbs 22:6 – AMP – Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], Even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6 – GNB – Teach children how they should live, and they will remember it all their lives.

Proverbs 22:6 – ESV – Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.

Proverbs 22:6 – YOR – Tọ́ ọmọde li ọ̀na ti yio tọ̀: nigbati o si dàgba tan, kì yio kuro ninu rẹ̀.

Key: God has placed the responsibility of training up a child on the parents (Deut. 6:6-7ESV – And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise).

It’s the duty of parents to teach them the way of the Lord and also help them grow the gifts God has given them. More so, it is important for the parent to live a life worthy of emulating because parents are the lenses through which the child sees the world. Words are not enough, the lifestyle of the parent are also means of training. If they don’t learn from the parents, they will learn from someone else. They will only learn how to love by seeing how the parents love; they imitate their parents.

Thus, if the parents follow Christ, they will also learn what it means to follow Christ.

Action: All parents should use their time with their children wisely; they see everything they do and imitate them.
