The Light Daily Devotional – Waiting on God

Focus: Waiting on God

WORD FOR TODAY

The degree to which God wants to accomplish something significant in your life determines the degree of waiting He requires from you. When God calls a person to wait on Him, it is for preparation, a time for him to acquire the strength, wisdom, and capacity to carry out the great mandate God has for your future!

Scriptural Reference

“But those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)

Waiting on God is not passive; it is a time of renewal and growth. As you wait, God is building you up, making you stronger, so that when the time comes, you will not falter in fulfilling His purpose for your life.

Joseph, before his dream was fulfilled, he had to go through a season of waiting and preparation. Through his trials, Joseph acquired the skills necessary to manage not just an estate, but eventually the entire Egyptian empire. His waiting period equipped him with the wisdom and experience to handle the enormous responsibility that his dream would bring.

Similarly, David was anointed as king long before he ascended the throne. Though he had the promise of kingship, he was not immediately given the crown. Instead, David spent years in the wilderness, fleeing from Saul and leading a band of outcasts. God used this time to train David’s hands for war and to teach him how to lead with courage, humility, and wisdom. When David finally took the throne, he did not ascend as a weak or inexperienced man, but as one who had been shaped by the trials and victories of his waiting period. Both Joseph and David’s seasons of waiting were not wasted. They emerged stronger and wiser, fully prepared to carry the weight of their God-given mandates. The bigger the calling, the deeper the preparation required.

The greater the destiny, the more preparation is needed. The time God allows you to wait is directly proportional to the size of the mandate He has placed on your life. What God wants to do through you may be so significant that He needs to carefully prepare you, building up your spiritual, emotional, and intellectual capacity to handle what is coming.

Waiting on God is not a setback; it is a gift. It is a time of hidden growth, where God is doing deep work in your heart, mind, and soul. This waiting period is where God refines your character, sharpens your skills, and deepens your dependence on Him. When the time is right, you will emerge not as someone who barely survived the waiting, but as someone who has been strengthened, renewed, and fully equipped. As you wait, be patient and let God do His work. He is preparing you for something far greater than you can imagine.

Meditation: Are you waiting on God?

Prayer: Lord, help me to trust in Your perfect timing. Build in me the wisdom and capacity to carry out the great mandate You have for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Emphasis: The degree of waiting God requires from you is directly related to the greatness of the purpose He has placed on your life.

Live with the understanding that God is preparing you for greatness.
