The Light Daily Devotional – The True Measure of a Man

Focus: The True Measure of a Man

WORD FOR TODAY

A man only becomes truly special when God crowns him with His glory and honor. Without the covering of God’s glory, there is nothing inherently special in the life of any human being. It is God’s touch that makes a man stand out, His presence that makes one extraordinary, and His favour that elevates a person beyond the ordinary!

Scriptural Reference

“What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, and You have crowned him with glory and honour.” — Psalm 8:4-5 (NKJV)

It is God’s mindfulness, His choice to crown us with glory and honour, that gives our lives true value. Without His divine imprint on our lives, we are fragile, fleeting, and ultimately replaceable in the grand scheme of things.

When God is still backing a man, he will appear wonderful, special, and irreplaceable. But the moment God’s covering departs, all of that perceived grandeur fades away. The lives of those we see passing away send a sobering message to the living: no man is so special that they are indispensable. Many great men have died, and yet the world moves on. No matter how vital we think we are, life will not stop because of our absence. Systems continue to function, organizations keep running, and the world keeps turning. Don’t ever think that if you are not there, things won’t work the way they should. God’s design for the world is far bigger than any one individual. His plan moves forward, with or without us.

Moses is one of the greatest leaders in Israel’s history. He led the people out of Egypt, performed miracles, and received the Law from God Himself. Yet, there came a day when Moses died, and God’s work did not stop. Joshua was called to take his place, and through him, God performed even more wonders. This shows that no matter how great a person may be, God will never run out of human resources. His kingdom is never short of workers, and His plans are never dependent on just one man. When things are going well for you, be more humble, because it is only God’s backing that makes it so.

The most impressive achievements of men—records, awards, and trophies—will eventually fade into obscurity. What once seemed monumental will one day become irrelevant, gathering dust as time moves on. The true and lasting legacy of a person is not in their accolades or accomplishments, but in their humility before God and their obedience to His will.

Be humble. Live to please God, not to accumulate the praise of men. A purpose-driven life is one that seeks to glorify God in all things, not to elevate oneself above others. The apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 12:3 to “not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment.” In all things, remember that your life is a gift from God, meant to worship and serve Him.

Meditation: Are you living in a way that reflects the glory and honour God has bestowed on you?

Prayer: Lord, help me to remember that everything good in my life comes from You. Keep me humble, knowing that it is Your glory and honor that make me special. Let me live a life that seeks to please You above all else. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Emphasis: True greatness comes from being crowned with God’s glory and honour. Without Him, we are nothing. Stay humble, for life is meant to glorify God, not ourselves.

Live with humility, knowing that God is the source of all greatness, and without Him, we are just a fleeting breath in the wind..
