Word of the day: Ecclesiastes 5 vs 4 – Keep All The Promises You Make to God

Caption: Keep all the promises you make to God

Memorise: When you make a promise to God, don’t delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him.  Ecclesiastes 5:4 – NLT

Ecclesiastes 5:4 – AMP – When you make a vow or a pledge to God, do not put off paying it; for God takes no pleasure in fools [who thoughtlessly mock Him]. Pay what you vow.

Ecclesiastes 5:4 – ESV – When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow.

Ecclesiastes 5:4 – NIV – When you make a vow to God, do not delay to fulfill it. He has no pleasure in fools; fulfill your vow.

Bible verse in Yoruba

Oniwaasu 5:4 – Nigbati iwọ ba jẹ ẹjẹ́ fun Ọlọrun, máṣe duro pẹ lati san a: nitori kò ni inu-didun si aṣiwère: san eyi ti iwọ jẹjẹ́.

Key: Like Hannah (And she vowed a vow and said, “O LORD of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head. 1 Samuel 1:11), often times when we are praying and believing God for divine intervention in critical issues, we make vows and promises to God of the things we will give back to Him or do if He grants our request. But, more often than not, we don’t keep the promises and vows we make to God after we get our blessings; we forget and neglect our vows and expect God to understand why we can’t fulfill them. If God has honored His word, we also must not break the terms of the deal, just like Hannah (So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD.” 1 Samuel 1:28).

Emphasis: God regards those who do not keep their vows as fools and sinners and He will surely punish them. We must therefore be careful not to forget God and the promises we make to Him.

Action: Father, forgive me for all the promises I made to you that I didn’t fulfill.
